Travel and gatherings with family and friends who do not live with you can increase your chances of getting or spreading <a href=\"https:\/\/healthcoreclinic.org\/es\/2020\/03\/24\/coronavirus-vs-cold-vs-flu-vs-allergies\/\">COVID-19 or the flu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The following CDC recommendations are from https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/holidays\/winter.html<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wear a mask<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wear a mask with two or more layers to stop the spread of COVID-19 to protect others and yourself.<\/li><li>Wear your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/how-to-wear-cloth-face-coverings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mask<\/a>&nbsp;over your nose and mouth, secure it under your chin, and make sure it fits snugly against the sides of your face.<\/li><li>Wear a mask indoors and outdoors.<\/li><li>In cold weather,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wear your mask<\/a>&nbsp;under your scarf, ski mask, or balaclava.<\/li><li>Keep a spare mask in case your mask becomes wet from moisture in your breath or from snow or rain.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Indoors or outdoors, you are more likely to get or spread COVID-19 when you are in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/php\/contact-tracing\/contact-tracing-plan\/appendix.html#contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">close contact<\/a>&nbsp;with others for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.<\/li><li>Remember that people without symptoms or with a recent negative test result can still spread COVID-19 to others.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avoid crowded, poorly ventilated indoor spaces<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As much as possible, avoid crowds and indoors spaces that do not offer fresh air from the outdoors. If indoors, bring in fresh air by opening windows and doors, if possible.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wash your hands<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing and before eating.<ul><li>Make sure to dry your hands completely using a clean towel or by air drying.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>If soap and water are not readily available,&nbsp;use a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/hand-sanitizer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hand sanitizer<\/a>&nbsp;that contains at least 60% alcohol.<\/li><li>Avoid touching your mask, eyes, nose, and mouth.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Get a flu shot as soon as possible<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/prevent\/flushot.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flu shot<\/a>\u00a0can help protect you and your family, friends, and community from getting and spreading flu.<\/li><li>By <a href=\"https:\/\/healthcoreclinic.org\/es\/2021\/10\/22\/is-the-flu-shot-effective-at-preventing-the-flu\/\">getting a flu shot<\/a>, you can also help lower hospital visits and serious health problems from flu.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/holidays\/winter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn More<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Safer<\/em> Celebrations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Celebrating virtually or with the people you live with is the safest choice this winter. If you do gather with people who don\u2019t live with you, gatherings and activities held outdoors are safer than indoor gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attending a Winter Holiday Celebration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to following the steps that everyone can take to make the holidays safer, take these additional steps if attending a gathering to make your celebration safer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have conversations with the host ahead of time to understand expectations for celebrating together.<\/li><li>Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, utensils, and condiment packets.<\/li><li>Wear a mask indoors and outdoors.<\/li><li>Avoid shouting or singing.<\/li><li>Stay home if you are sick or have been near someone who thinks they may have or have been exposed to COVID-19.<\/li><li>It\u2019s okay if you decide to stay home and remain apart from others.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/deciding-to-go-out.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Do what\u2019s best for you<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosting a Winter Holiday Celebration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to have guests at your home, make sure that everyone follows the steps to make holiday celebrations safer. Other ways you can make your celebration safer include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have conversations with guests ahead of time to set expectations for celebrating together.<\/li><li>Limit the number of guests.<\/li><li>Have a small,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/personal-social-activities.html#gatherings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outdoor celebration<\/a>&nbsp;with family and friends who live in your community, weather-permitting.<\/li><li>Have extra unused masks available for your guests and encourage everyone to wear them inside and outside.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/disinfecting-your-home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Clean and disinfect<\/a>&nbsp;frequently touched surfaces and items between use.<\/li><li>If celebrating indoors, bring in fresh air by opening windows and doors, if possible.&nbsp;You can use a window fan in one of the open windows to blow air out of the window.&nbsp;This will pull fresh air in through the other open windows.<\/li><li>Have a separate space for guests to wash their hands or provide hand sanitizer.<\/li><li>Keep background music volume low so guests don\u2019t need to shout.<\/li><li>Cancel your gathering if you or someone who lives with you is sick or has been near someone who thinks they have or has COVID-19.<\/li><li>It\u2019s okay if you decide to postpone or cancel your gathering.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/deciding-to-go-out.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Do what\u2019s best for you.<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food and Drink at Holiday Celebrations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to winter holidays, food traditions are often an important part of celebrations. There is no evidence that handling or eating food spreads COVID-19, but it is always important to follow&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/foodsafety\/communication\/holidays.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">food safety practices<\/a>. These questions can help you decide what is best for you and your family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are you, someone in your household, or someone you will be visiting at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/need-extra-precautions\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increased risk for getting very sick<\/a>&nbsp;from COVID-19?<\/li><li>Are cases high or increasing in your community or at your destination?
