Kristin Loyd, DNP, APRN
Kristin Loyd, PhD, is a nurse practitioner and graduated from the doctoral program for advanced nursing practice at Wichita State University in 2017. She has been working for 2 years in primary care. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Loyd was a registered nurse in the hospital intensive care units for 10 years and held a Masters in Health Science degree from Texas Wesleyan University. Her excellence in nursing motivates her desire to work as a nurse practitioner because she wants to empower people to be healthy and well. Her passion for diabetes care is driven by the bonds she builds with her patients and her non-judgmental approach to the daily labors of living with diabetes. For her doctoral research, she conducted a research study called “Diabetes Distress in Individuals with Diabetes.” This was a small study done at a diabetes specialty clinic in Wichita and studied the associations of diabetes distress with hemoglobin AIC and with 8 social determinants of health. At HealthCore Clinic, Loyd and Dr. Penny Jeffery pioneered group visits that includes diabetes education, peer support and emotional health education for the patients struggling with diabetes. Loyd is also a member of the Association American Diabetes Educators, American Diabetes Association and the Kansas Advanced Practice Nurses Association. She is working to become Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management this June.
