Marvell Sosa, M.Ed, LCAC

Licensed Addictions Counselor

February 28, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved colleague, Marvell Sosa. It is a moment of great sorrow for our HealthCore Clinic Family, and we extend our deepest condolences to Marvell Sosa’s family, friends, and patients during this difficult time.

Marvell Sosa was an integral part of our team where she served as a Licensed Addictions Counselor and was passionate about her clients and the community.

Marvell often voiced how drawn she felt toward serving those struggling to overcome life difficulties. She met clients where they were and always encouraged them to keep putting one foot in front of the other to continue on their journey to recovery. Marvell touched hundreds of lives throughout her 20-year tenure at HealthCore, among countless others, throughout her career. She was an active member of the Shadow Movement and Whetstone Counseling Program contracted with Community Corrections from 1989-2016. She served on the Critical Incident Response and Child Protection Teams as an advocate at McConnell Air Force Base.

Marvell was born and raised in Louisiana and graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She graduated from Wichita State University with a Master of Education in Counseling and School Psychology. Marvell was honored by the Wichita Business Journal in 2019 as a Women in Business Honoree. She was asked what her best advice was for a woman just beginning her career. Marvell responded, “The race is not given to the swift, but to the one who endures until the end. Set your eyes on the prize and never give up. Just keep taking one step at a time. It might seem that everyone is outrunning you but just stay steady and goal-focused and you will make it in your own time.” Marvell was also recognized in 2006 by the Wichita Community Action League and was presented with the Unsung Hero Award. Marvell considered this her greatest professional achievement because it signified for her that she was thought of, not by the rich or the influential persons of the community but, by all of those whose lives she had touched in some manner.

Marvell was a remarkable individual who deeply cared for the Wichita community and tirelessly served the patients at HealthCore Clinic. Her unwavering dedication and selflessness made her a treasure to all of us at HealthCore and she will be greatly missed.
